Length: 3 hours
Description:
Oftentimes when we feel tightness in the body, it actually relates more to weakness or lack of engagement of the muscles. Perfect examples of this are the hip flexors and hamstrings. I have experienced this in my own body. When the muscles of our legs and hips aren’t engaging, they aren’t properly supporting our skeletal system. This puts our low back at risk.
A lifestyle of sitting for too long whether, behind a desk, in our cars, or in front of the TV, causes the back of the body to be lengthened while the front of the body is shortened and tight. It’s not enough to just stretch the muscles for relief.
Facilitated stretching is a technique where we engage a muscle in order to provide a deeper, safer stretch leading to greater flexibility.
In this workshop, we will:
— discuss the anatomy of the hips and thighs to become familiar with each muscle group
— utilize actions of engagement to bring awareness to these groups for better understanding
— put these actions into practice to create stability in our bodies
This workshop will have a discussion followed by a physical practice.
Some yoga experience will be helpful but not required.
